Can you tell us a little bit about your work?
My day starts with a strong coffee and a daily standup with the rest of the engineering team at StoryShare. Stand-ups are the best way to get you ready for the day, keep on track and get motivated for what’s to come.
Coding makes up the majority of my job role but I’m also here for the dev team should they have any questions or concerns. I like to see this part of my job as one where I sweep in and save the day, but it’s not quite like that. When someone is facing a coding-related challenge, I help them find a solution without directly giving them the answer. Spoon-feeding isn’t my style- this way they come to understand the issue and solve the problem themselves.
How did you end up working in engineering?
I’ve always worked closely with computers in some way. I find the complex processes around technology fascinating and extremely engaging. I attended classes which taught me the basics of software coding and then continued to teach myself online. There are some incredible resources out there if you look.
Why is your role important?
You have a responsibility and ownership for building software which will potentially be bought and used by many customers across the globe. With our StoryShare platform, there is potential to shape and impact how people work and live their lives.
What one piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Take the risks earlier and don’t be afraid of the consequences.
